Cigar inventory spreadsheet: what to record

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Cette page existe aussi en français.

A cigar inventory records, for each cigar in a collection, what it is, how many there are, when it was added and where it is kept: one line per cigar, one column per piece of information. A blank cigar inventory spreadsheet with the twelve columns described below, headers only and no data, can be downloaded as a comma-separated CSV file: cigar-inventory-template.csv.

The columns are a proposal, not a standard. None is required, and any of them can be renamed, moved or removed. Length is in inches in this template; the length conversion table gives the millimeter equivalents.

This page is about the spreadsheet itself. For anyone comparing apps instead, how to choose a cigar humidor app sets out what to check.

What goes in each column

ColumnWhat to write in it
NameThe name of the cigar.
BrandThe name the cigar is sold under.
VitolaThe traditional name of the format, for example corona.
Length (in)The length from head to foot, in inches, for example 5.5. A length given in millimeters converts by dividing by 25.4, or with the length table.
Ring gaugeThe diameter in sixty-fourths of an inch, as a whole number, for example 50. A diameter given in millimeters converts with the ring gauge chart.
WrapperThe wrapper as the maker describes it, for example its shade or its origin.
CountryThe country where the cigar was made.
QuantityHow many of this cigar the collection holds today.
Purchase dateThe day the cigars were bought, written YYYY-MM-DD. For a cigar bought more than once, the latest purchase.
Date addedThe day the line was added to the inventory, written YYYY-MM-DD. It stands in for the purchase date when that date is unknown, for cigars received as a gift or bought before the inventory was started.
LocationThe name of the place where the cigars are kept, written the same way every time, for example “Home” or “Office” (see below).
NotesFree text for anything the other columns do not hold, such as who gave the cigars.

Keeping it current

One line per cigar and per place: several boxes of the same cigar in the same place share a single line, and the Quantity column carries the total.

When the count changes, the Quantity cell on that line is the one to change. A line at zero can stay on the sheet rather than be deleted, so its dates and notes are kept.

Dates are written YYYY-MM-DD, year first, for example 2026-10-22 for October 22, 2026. Written this way, a date column sorts in date order, even when a spreadsheet treats it as text.

Several locations

A collection kept in several places relies on the Location column. Each place is written the same way on every line, and sorting or filtering on that column shows what each one holds.

The same cigar kept in two places takes one line per place, each with its own quantity.

In Cigarino

Cigarino keeps the inventory of a cigar collection, in one or more humidors.

The template on this page is a separate spreadsheet: it does not depend on the app, and its columns do not describe the app’s own fields. How humidors work in the app, and the limits that apply, are covered on the support page.

Cigarino is available on the App Store and Google Play.
